Spring Poetry
18″ x 24″ Plein Air Pastel, May 7th 05
I asked for a flower, and God gave me a tree.
I asked for a bouquet and God gave me Spring.
As a child I asked for Love and God gave me a Mother.
Happy Mother’s Day!
This piece is absolutely one of my favorite pastel works from a few years ago and will stay in my collection.
I’ll never forget how warm and windy the day was. As I stood with my easel in the grass and my children sat on the lawn next to me with their pastels and sketch paper. Together we drew this gorgeous flowering crab apple tree on Mother’s Day.
While I was drawing I asked my son to run inside and grab a pencil and scrap piece of paper as the poem formed in my mind.
To all the Mother’s I know,
I celebrate you today for your incredible love you have for your children.
All the best today and always,
~Rebecca

“I love this piece especially!
It was a challenge to paint at night with a small outside light on behind me.Sometimes I had to double check the color I was about to use when it’s dark, purple looks alot like brown and vice versa. I can remember quickly drawing, chasing the dancing flames and hurrying to stoke the fire to keep it burning bright. Back and forth I would go sometimes it had burned down very far before I had to force myself to step away my drawing to put more wood on . For hours only me and the crickets as my family quietly slept. I wasn’t sure how it would turn out or if I could succeed at chasing flames. But I am happy with the end and do think I was able to capture the essence of the night, and would love to do it all again, it was a gorgeous summer night. “Plein Fire

The Sound of Peace18″ x 24″ Pastel alla prima plein air landscape
hmm this piece I remember very well, like yesterday.
I had to force myself to find healing for some difficult things that had happened to our family. For as soft and peaceful as this piece appears finished it’s amazing how angry and tearful it began.Sold

Here is number 2 of 7,
Moon Rise, listed at pennies comparable to my love for it.I love this piece and am having a hard time listing it.Why do I love it? It was so peaceful to watch and follow the moon as it rose behind the trees.I let the moment by moment trail stay on the page. If you look from left ot right you can see on one page how the moon travelled. Many paintings I have created stay with me, I can recall how I felt, how the weather was, where I was standing etc. This was drawn on our porch later one night, the only light I had was the small table lamp on the floor behind where I knelt, it was chilly beautiful time and I had to draw quickly minute by minute the moon was changing.

if you don’t want to bid make me an offer on any of the available originals before they go to auction.I am keeping one piece for myself that I just can’t part with and that is Spring Poetry. Other than that I want to clear out my portfolio. I am pursuing gallery representation in three cities in two states and am entirely focusing on oil painting. I am no longer accepting portrait requests either.
Cheers to New works in an exciting New Year. All the bestRebecca

Many times inspiration comes when you least expect it, and you gotta grab it when it comes. I had these two pieces of blank paper mounted and waiting for sometime, not sure what I wanted to draw with my limited palette I call my yard, being an artist that is also a mother of 5 littles ones forces my creativity. For now I can dream of the places I will paint and I have to look around what I see everyday and grab the moments to share. These were no exception, I have been joyfully waiting for Falls show, and I’m trying to not judge what has just begun, but some trees like the poplar that turn a beautiful yellow are turning a quick shade of brown as they tumble. I had just sat for a quick break before dinner, looked up, there it was. I knew it as soon as I saw it, dinner waited…a little bit. Rebecca Grantham
